Before you think I am crazy hear me out.***
Would you buy a 10 or 15 year old quartz watch? Now, you may think to yourself: "hold on I have been brainwashed by the unsubstantiated crap it has no soul and it cannot be serviced, etc".
But, what if the quartz has a bog standard ETA quartz that you can buy for £15 and any watchmaker could swap it out for you in case it is not working.
I really like to know if people here buy old (>10 years) quartz watches and have the watchmaker swapping out the quartz movement. Yes, this is all hypothetical because a quartz should not need a service after 10 years.
Would you feel confident that after 15 years ETA still provides quartz movements (that your watchmaker can buy)?
***There is this Ebel for £1250-£1300 (ETA 2824-2) and the exact same model (same case, same steel bracelet, except that the automatic also comes with a spare rubber strap for a change) but with quartz (£950-£1100). I would rather like the quartz but I know I may never be able to sell it a few years from now. Tastes change so this is a sensible consideration to make to also having the option to sell it. The criticism that there is only a £15 quartz in the Ebel for a grey dealer price of £1000 is invalid because the £150 ETA in the automatic for a grey dealer price of £1250 is no steal either.
