First off, love this watch. However, it has anti-reflective on both sides and the AR doesn't seem nearly as good as the stuff used on my new SMP-c. It attracts a ton of dust and lint and appears to have started scratching after only an aggregate of maybe 30-40 hours of wear.
So I removed it. A little paper towel and some Simichrome and problem solved. Except... maybe not. While the pesky outer AR is now gone, I still see some marks that I thought were AR scratches. Now, they look like minor smudges on the inside of the crystal. Hey, no big deal to unscrew the case back, and remove the movement/innards to check out the inside of the crystal... except I've never seen a case like this.
I fought for a while to get the case tube unscrewed, thinking it somehow was keeping the movement/holder inside of the case. That was all a waste of time: doesn't appear to be the, er, case. I removed two mounting screws which now allow the movement to be rotated inside of the case, but that doesn't quite help. What I first thought was a movement holder/mounting bracket appears to be part of the case.
At first, I wondered if (look at the dial), only the inner part of the dial--attached to the movement--could be removed. Carefully pry the movement out, and then tilt so as to not bend/ruin the hands (preferably waiting or configuring the watch so that the minute and second hands are aligned). But the dial looks to be all one piece. In line with that, when I twist the movement, the entire dial moves... so that theory gets tossed out.
I've identified what I think are the dial feet, but detaching the movement from the dial (you'd then still have to deal with the hands) doesn't seem to accomplish much.
All I can figure is that Fortis, for some reason, assembles this watch from the outside. They stick the movement in through the case back, and then plop the dial and hands in through the front. Then finish by pressing the crystal in. That seems great and all but how do they even disassemble/service a watch like that. Surely this can't be the case (again, pardon the pun).
Any advice/insight would certainly be a huge help here and I'd appreciate it immensely.
