Lately, I have read many reviews of Seiko collectors evaluating on their recent acquired of Seiko SRP (turtle) and Seiko SARB/SARX dress watch.
IMHO, Seiko will continue 4R & 6R movement (mass production workhorse engine), offering as standard grade movement for many years ahead ... No worries if any collector wishes to replace parts or even entire movement;
On the other hand, current 4R movements (International & Asia Models) will gradually replaced the aging 7S (non-hacking & non-winding) within next few years.
The differences of 6R and 4R:
:: 6R - higher reserved power of over 50-hrs; plus using Spron mainspring!
:: 4R - reserved power of 40-hrs;
As I have mentioned earlier, to achieve Economical of Scale, since 2006, Seiko had been focusing offering 4 types of Basic Function mechanical movements:
Standard Movt - 7S26 (already in midst of replacing by 4R within next 3-5 years);
Standard Movt - 4R (many recent new Asia Models like Turtles already housing the 4R);
Advance Movt - 6R (JDM Dresed and Scuba Diver);
High Grade Movt - 8L and 4L (only Seiko MarineMaster Diver and Credor Dressed model);
Chronometer Grade - Grand Seiko 9S and SpringDrive (no need of me to elaborate further)
