I'm debating between the standard $40 5600 G Shock and the G-5600E-1FJ
I don't want to have automatic syncing. I just want a watch that's going to last a long time. I've read a lot of people online saying that the tough solar is just a gimmick, and isnt' going to extent the life of the watch that much. A lot of people seem to have had problems with their solar G Shocks, but I'm not sure if the 5600 is a model that's susceptible to these problems.
I live in Mexico, and my concern with the regular 5600 non solar is that when the battery dies, and I get it replaced, I won't have the tools to do it myself, and the inexpert watch repairmen will ruin the waterproofing, ruining the watch. I'm really tired of having to replace all my electronics: headphones, keyboards, cables, whatever, especially since I usually need to wait until my yearly US trip to buy replacements.
I was going to buy the regular 5600, since the solar didn't sound reliable, but on the amazon page, I saw a huge amount of very negative reviews for the standard 5600. They say it's made in China and doesn't last long at all. That's not what I'm looking for in a watch!
Apparently the solar 5600 is made in Thailand. Is the build quality going to be better on that than the standard 5600? The price difference is about $60, since I haven't been able to find a regular solar 5600 for $70 on the internet, and can only find the $100 one.
Any opinions or comments would be greatly appreciated!
