From the day the Ingenieur Automatic 40mm was released at SIHH in January 2013, I simply knew I had to have one. I had previously owned a 322701 and admired it so much for its design as an industrial work of art. But I just couldn't live with the size and weight of it. So upon seeing the new 3239's and their magnificent 40x10mm proportions, I was sold and I believed that I'd found my perfect watch!
And so began my hunt to attain one. I only ever buy my watches pre-loved, so I scoured the forums and pre-owned watch dealers for YEARS trying to find one. A task made even harder when you live in the most remote city on Earth (Perth, Australia). It is quite incredible that these things hardly ever come up for sale pre-owned. This only made me more determined to get one, as I figured they must be pretty damn nice if buyers are not flipping them. I had never even been to an AD to see one in the metal, I just knew I would love it regardless!
Well, this week my patience and determination finally paid off. A miracle happened, and a BNIB one with AD stamped card came up for sale here in Oz, at a great price. Needless to say, I pounced on it!!
All those years of waiting and hoping and lusting after this watch was well worth it! It is everything I hoped, and knew it would be!! It looks incredibly substantial on the wrist, yet feels so light and comfortable. All the design elements work perfectly, just as I knew they would. It is the perfect modern interpretation of a classic. IMO (please don't flame me for this), this is the watch that the 3227 should have been. Every bit as incredible to behold, but also immensely wearable. I even prefer the 2892 based movement, which is in my opinion one of the best movements ever made.
Guys, this has been my ultimate grail watch for three and a half years now, and I'm so happy I finally attained it. It's immediately a core piece in my collection and I can say in complete confidence that I'll keep it forever. Quote me on that!
