Best used timepiece to wear everyday?

I'm turning 50 pretty soon and want to mark that with a piece that you just want to wear everyday, and will still want to wear in ten years. With a budget of around $1000, what do you recommend. I'm happy with it being pre owned. Looking for something that is a good blend between chunky everyday, but still works when you put on your Sunday best!:-)
Any thoughts?
