Up for sale is a vintage 1971 JDM SEIKO 5 Sports 6139-7020 SpeedTimer Chronograph with the highly sought after "Champagne Dial". Currently this watch is NOT working and will need a full service if you plan on restoring/repairing the watch. This SpeedTimer has seen some use. This was a flea market find for me and I planned on restoring it one day. However, it's just been sitting in a drawer and decided that maybe someone else should tackle this project or use its parts for another project. The movement will need a complete overhaul. There is grime and crud all over the movement (see pic). The pushers don't work and the crown barely spins and currently can't pull out.
I'm looking to get $120 for the watch. If you see current eBay auctions, you will notice that there are 2 other 6139-7020's and both are black dialed, and both are more than double what I'm asking for. With concern to the specs of the watch, please refer to the photos. If you need additional details, please contact me.
- MODEL - 6139-7020 JDM SEIKO 5 SPORTS SpeedTimer "Champagne Dial"
- SERIAL # - 197403 which according to most SEIKO date production calendars, dates the watch to September 1971 with a production # of 7403 that month
- MOVEMENT - NOT working (see pic)
- DIAL - rare "Champagne" dial signed "SEIKO 5 SPORTS" and reads "SpeedTimer" with day + date at 3 o'clock position, raised markers, markers show aging, subdial at 6 o'clock position
- HANDS - original hands with lume, lume does not glow, seconds chronograph hand has been replaced with an orange one at some point - original should be yellow like the subdial
- CASE - measures roughly 41.35mm across with crown by 43.85mm lug to lug, shows signs of wear, still has sharp lines (see pics) so I think that the case has never been polished
- CASEBACK - solid caseback signed SEIKO, reads "STAINLESS STEEL 6139-7020 WATER RESISTANT JAPAN A" with serial #, has some marks (see pic)
- BEZEL - original inner bezel that does not rotate due to the movement needing a complete overhaul
- CRYSTAL - original with various marks (see pics)
- CROWN - original dimple crown & pushers - neither work (as written above)
- BAND - SEIKO Lord Matic bracelet is currently on the watch
- OVERALL - a hard to find Champagne dialed SpeedTimer that needs help or can be used for parts on another project
This 6139-7020 comes with the highly sought after "Champagne" dial. Most 6139-7020s that you will see have the black dial. It really is called a silver dial, but when the light hits it, it looks like chamapgne.
As stated above, this watch is NOT keeping time and NOT in working order. Therefore, this watch is being sold AS IS and ALL SALES ARE FINAL! I am not a watchmaker, simply a collector/flipper. Therefore it is always advised to have the watch looked over by a competent watch maker.
