Today I stopped in at Goodwill. I saw a Seiko in the case. I asked see it and it was just a plain Seiko Quartz from the 80s with a 7n43 movement but for $3.99 I thought why not. I asked the lady to hold it behind the counter and continued looking around. When I came back to pay she rung it up as $39.99. I expressed dismay and said I didn't want it at that price. I guess when I saw the price tag I just assumed that it had to be $3.99 and stopped looking after the 2nd 9. Oh well.
My next stop was a pawn shop. I saw a pocket watch in the case and asked to take a look at it. It was an Illinois size 12 grade 405 Model 3. I inspected it and it ran and set and the plating was in good shape so I asked them if they could do better than their marked price of $39.99 and got it for $35.00.
It could use a cleaning but it's a nice little pocket watch. Just when I was thinking that the days of inexpensive watches were past I found that things aren't all bad.
